Like many East European cities Krakow had once been a melting-pot of cultures, traditions, religions and languages which changed in the course of the turbulent history. However, now due to the opening of the country to the west after the communist area it regains its international charm, especially with all the foreign students coming to study there.
Krakow oldest city districts are Stare Miasto (Old Town), the Wawel District, Stradom and Kazimierz, as well as the ancient town of Kleparz. Ulica Kanoniczna (the Canonical Street) leading to the Wawel Castle is considered to be the city’s oldest street.
