Disability.

As Krakow is a small city, with most of its major attractions within walking distance from each, one might be inclined to think that it is a disability friendly city. Indeed, the old town is very accessible but unfortunately many bars, clubs and restaurants can be found in cavernous cellars at the bottom of a steep set of stairs.

But facilities are improving and Krakow is constantly up-grading in an attempt to cater for every need. New buildings are required to be wheelchair accessible and old buildings are slowly being refurbished.

Landmarks that already have facilities for the disabled include parts of Wawel castle, Wieliczka Salt Mines and Collegium Maius. Museums with facilities are: The National Museum's main gallery, The Aviation Museum, The Museum of Municipal Engineering, The Manggha Centre, Celestat Museum, Remembrance Museum and The Zoology Museum.

Public transport in Krakow has been undergoing some changes too. Newer trams and buses are all fitted with low floors, wider doors and enough room for a wheelchair. Older models are less accessible and may present some difficulties. Additionally, wheelchair accessible taxis are available from Partner Taxis on 0129633.

Disabled toilets can be found at Smocza, Powisle, Pradnicka, Park Jordana, Plac Getta and Rynek Podgorski.
