Speeding, driving without a licence, driving without a seatbelt in the front or back of a car, driving while talking on a mobile phone and driving under the influence of alcohol, are all grounds for fines in Poland.
In order to avoid fines of such a nature it is important to familiarise yourself with the local speed limits, carry an International Driver’s License, buckle up, use a hands-free set for your mobile phone and under no circumstance should you drink and drive as Poland has a strictly enforced zero tolerance policy for drink driving.
Public transport tickets must be validated, by having them punched at the yellow machines at the entrance to the metro stations or on board buses and trams, at the start of your journey. You will be fined on the spot if you are caught travelling with an invalid ticket. Jay walking is also considered an offence that is punishable with a fine if you are caught by the police.
If you are found drunk in a public place, the Police may take you to a clinic where a doctor will examine you. You will not be released until you are sober and you are expected to pay for the inconvenience.
